MUSCAT : Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded to him in Oman, saying his initial interactions in Muscat reflected the depth of the long-standing friendship between the two countries.

“Extremely grateful to H.H. Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, for the warm welcome at Muscat airport,” Modi said in a post on X following his arrival. “We also had a great interaction, exchanging perspectives on India–Oman friendship.”

Modi arrived in the Omani capital on the final leg of his three-nation tour and was accorded a ceremonial red-carpet welcome at the airport, where he was received by His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said.

The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Oman, a partnership rooted in centuries-old maritime, trade and cultural links.

During his stay, Modi is expected to hold high-level talks with Omani leadership and engage with the business community, with discussions likely to focus on trade, investment, energy cooperation and emerging areas aligned with Oman’s Vision 2040 development agenda.

India and Oman share close political, economic and people-to-people ties, supported by a large Indian expatriate community in the Sultanate. Officials on both sides say the visit is expected to add fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation and open new avenues for collaboration.
