MUSCAT : PM Modi’s visit to Muscat comes at a timely juncture, following the Sultan of Oman’s visit to India two years ago, and is expected to provide renewed direction to bilateral ties. In Muscat, the Prime Minister will hold talks with His Majesty the Sultan to further strengthen political, economic and strategic cooperation between the two countries.
Economic ties remain a strong pillar of the India–Oman relationship, with bilateral trade crossing USD 10 billion. Both sides are now looking to expand cooperation into emerging areas such as green hydrogen and other sustainable energy solutions, reflecting shared priorities for future growth. Discussions are also expected to touch upon progress towards a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement (FTA), an area where both countries have expressed optimism for forward movement.
The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, though India–Oman ties date back much further. Officials have highlighted that commercial engagement between the two countries has been ongoing for over two centuries, while cultural and people-to-people links span nearly 5,000 years, making the partnership one of the oldest in the region.
