MUSCAT : Under Article 79 of the Labour Law, workers are entitled to receive their full salary during official holidays. However, if an employee is required to work on such a holiday, the employer must notify them in writing before the holiday, according to Article 56 of the Model Guidelines for Labour Regulations in Private Sector Establishments.

When work on an official holiday is necessary, the employer is obligated to compensate the worker either with a cash payment equal to 100 percent of their daily basic wage on top of the day’s regular pay or provide compensatory leave, granting one day off for each holiday worked.

Article 71 of the Labour Law affirms that employees have the right to accept or decline overtime work on official holidays, ensuring their consent is respected.
