Telecom employee in Oman jailed, fined over RO 111,000 for embezzlement and forgery: SAI Report

Court imposes two-year prison term and OMR 111,925 fine; employee permanently barred from public office.

MUSCAT — An employee at a telecommunication company has been convicted of embezzlement, forgery, and abuse of public office, according to the Community Brief 2024 issued by the State Audit Institution (SAI).

The report revealed that the individual abused his position for personal gain, embezzling part of the company’s public funds and using forged instruments in several transactions related to the refund of guarantee amounts.

The court found the accused guilty of multiple offenses, including embezzlement by forgery, forgery in official instruments, use of forged documents with knowledge of forgery, and using information technology tools to commit information forgery crimes. He was also convicted of misdemeanors related to public fund transgression and misuse of public office for personal advantage.

As per the judgment, the employee was sentenced to two years in prison, fined RO 111,925, and ordered to restitute the embezzled amount. He was also removed from office and permanently prohibited from holding any public position.
