MUSCAT – The alert is in effect from 2 pm to 10 pm, as the Sultanate experiences the impact of a trough of low pressure bringing unstable weather conditions to the region.
According to the latest forecast, heavy rain ranging between 60 to 200 mm is expected over the governorates of North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, and Al Buraimi. These areas are likely to witness the flow of valleys (wadis) and ravines, along with occasional strong downward winds that could scatter loose or unstable objects and cause hazardous conditions. Residents in these regions are urged to take necessary precautions and avoid outdoor activities during peak storm hours.
Moderate to light rainfall is also forecast in North Al Sharqiyah and the southern parts of Musandam Governorate, with expected rainfall between 10 to 30 mm. South Al Sharqiyah is likely to see lighter rainfall amounts ranging between 5 to 10 mm. Despite the lower amounts, the rainfall may still lead to flash floods in valleys and low-lying areas, and may be accompanied by strong winds and reduced visibility.

The Meteorology Department has warned of active downward winds reaching speeds between 15 to 35 knots (approximately 28 to 64 km/h), which could result in poor horizontal visibility during thunderstorms. The Civil Aviation Authority, through its National Multi-Hazard Early Warning Centre, has advised the public to exercise extreme caution, avoid crossing valleys during rainfall, and stay away from flood-prone and low-lying areas. Individuals are also encouraged to secure loose objects outdoors and follow official updates through trusted government channels.
