MUSCAT : The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has cautioned the public to be vigilant against fraudsters impersonating representatives of government agencies and financial institutions to obtain sensitive banking details.
In a statement, the CBO said impersonation scams remain a common tactic used by cybercriminals to deceive victims. “Impersonating official entities is one of the tactics that scammers master, so beware of it,” the bank warned.
The regulator reminded citizens and residents that no legitimate institution ever requests confidential information—such as account numbers, passwords, or one-time passwords (OTPs) through phone calls, text messages, or emails.

The CBO urged the public to disregard such requests and report suspicious activity to the authorities. It reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing financial awareness and encouraged everyone to verify the authenticity of any communication before responding.
