MUSCAT – The announcement comes as part of ‘Aman’, a national three-month awareness campaign spearheaded by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, aimed at promoting ethical labour practices and raising awareness about the signs and dangers of human trafficking and forced labour.
“The employer is prohibited from imposing any form of forced or compulsory labour on the worker,” stated the GFOW notice.
Sharing some of the indicators of forced labour, the Federation pointed out that it includes not only physical coercion but also subtler forms of pressure such as financial penalties, withholding of rights or benefits, threat of dismissal, transfer to harsher working conditions, or retaliation. Other serious violations include physical confinement, sale of property, sexual or physical violence, deprivation of basic needs such as food and shelter, and involvement in debt bondage.
