MUSCAT – This strategic move enhances Khazaen’s integration with global shipping lines, and opening up broader prospects for local importers and exporters to benefit from a more efficient and flexible international distribution network.

The port recently received the first container shipments within this global network, arriving from international ports via Sohar Port as a transit port. Clearance and handling procedures were completed directly at Khazaen Port, thanks to its advanced operational readiness and sophisticated technical infrastructure.

Khazaen Dry Port also offers numerous operational advantages that support local and international trade, including free storage periods of up to 14 days for loaded containers and 21 days for empty containers. It provides advanced services for refrigerated containers, including electrical connection and pre-operational inspection, as well as on-site food and agricultural control facilities, accelerating the clearance process and facilitating quicker access to local markets.

This achievement reflects the fruit of a strategic partnership between the Asyad Group, represented by Asyad Ports and Free Zones, and the global CMA CGM Group. The service was implemented through a flexible customs corridor developed in cooperation with the Directorate General of Customs at the Royal Oman Police.

The implementation of a flexible customs corridor allows container movement using a ‘shipping agent seal’ in place of traditional customs closures. It also enables operators to provide a written financial pledge instead of a bank guarantee, reducing costs and improving logistics efficiency.

Saad Bait Naseeb, CEO of Khazaen Dry Port, explained that this development is part of a larger strategy to position Oman as a competitive regional logistics hub. He pointed out that the port’s integration with CMA CGM aligns with Oman Vision 2040, which aims to support economic diversification and enhance Oman’s position as a competitive, integrated, and globally connected logistics hub.
