MUSCAT : The new projects include the construction of a surface storage dam in Al Rashbi village, Wilayat of Dima wa Al Taiyyin, and a groundwater recharge dam in Quraisha village, Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid. Together, these dams aim to enhance groundwater recharge, improve water availability in nearby villages, and contribute to expanding green spaces and agriculture.
Dr. Abdul Aziz bin Ali Al-Mashikhi, Director General of the General Directorate of Agricultural Wealth and Water Resources in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, explained that these initiatives are part of a broader national plan to construct feeding, protection, and surface storage dams to better manage Oman’s water resources and mitigate flood risks.
The Al Rashbi surface storage dam will have a capacity of 4,000 cubic meters and is being built at a cost of OMR 70,175, while the Quraisha groundwater recharge dam will cover an area of 45,000 square meters with a budget of OMR 46,504. Both projects are scheduled for completion by April 2026.

The construction work involves dam body formation, cement supports, iron peg reinforcements, spillway protection, and the installation of drainage control valves and safety systems in accordance with approved specifications.
These developments are expected to significantly improve water storage, raise the water levels of wells and aflaj, and provide a more reliable source of irrigation for agricultural communities in the region.
North Al Sharqiyah currently hosts 13 operational dams, including prominent recharge dams like Amda and Al Ghubrah in Dima wa Al Taiyyin, and several collection dams across Al Qabil, Al Mudhaibi, Sinaw, Ibra, and Jabal Al Abyad.
