MUSCAT – “If we contact you, be the first to donate blood, as you may be the only hope the patient is waiting for,” the Ministry stated.
The appeal underscores the complexities of blood transfusions. The Ministry explained that blood types directly impact the process, as antigens on red blood cells must be compatible to prevent serious complications for the patient. To ensure a safe transfusion, blood banks conduct precise tests to determine antigen types and select the most compatible donors.
“These suitable donors are often limited in number and are contacted when their specific blood type is needed,” said the statement.
