MUSCAT – The camp is part of the ‘Makeen’ initiative, which aims to empower Omani talent in modern digital fields.
The launch event was patronised by His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary for Communications and Information Technology at the ministry.
Speaking on the occasion, Jalila bint Abdullah Al Fanna Al Araimi, Director of the Ministry’s Future Skills Development Department, stated that the camp targets 50 job seekers with talents in game development, offering two specialised tracks: programming and animation design.
The 24-week programme combines theoretical learning with hands-on training led by certified local and international experts. Participants will gain practical experience through technology incubators and digital game projects, paving the way for the establishment of startups that can compete globally.
Al Araimi highlighted that the initiative aligns with national efforts to build digital capabilities and create new opportunities for Omani youth in the growing global gaming industry. The collaboration with Unity, a world leader in game engine technology used in over 50 percent of digital games worldwide, marks the first such partnership in Oman, bringing valuable global expertise to the programme.

His Excellency Sheikh Humaid bin Juma Al Shamsi, Shura Council Member and Chairman of Al Nahda Training Institute, described the initiative as a vital step to equip Omani youth with modern digital skills, which have become a fundamental pillar of advanced global economies. He noted that video gaming is no longer just entertainment, but rather a comprehensive knowledge-based industry that combines programming, design, artificial intelligence, and artistic creativity.
The camp offers a practical platform that qualifies Omani youth to engage in this promising global sector.
