MUSCAT – This rare celestial alignment offers an ideal opportunity for public to accurately determine the Qibla direction from their homes.
“The phenomenon of the sun being directly overhead the Kaaba occurs twice a year and serves as a perfect opportunity to accurately determine the direction of the Qibla. This can be done by placing a vertical object (such as a straight stick) upright on a flat surface at the exact time of the alignment; at that moment, the shadow cast by the object will point in the exact opposite direction of the Qibla,” states the announcement from OSAS.
