Muscat: The Central Bank’s figures show that credit extended to the private sector reached RO 27.9 billion — marking a 6.8% increase compared to the same period last year. Within this, non-financial corporations held the lion’s share at 46.4%, followed closely by individual borrowers at 44.2%. The remaining credit was distributed to financial corporations (5.7%) and other sectors (3.7%).
Meanwhile, total deposits in the banking sector grew by 7.9% to hit RO 32.3 billion by the end of May 2025. Of this, private sector deposits contributed RO 21.9 billion, reflecting a 7.4% annual increase.
Breaking down the private sector deposits, individuals accounted for nearly half at 49.5%, followed by non-financial corporates at 30.7%, and financial corporates at 17.5%. The rest—2.3%—was allocated to other sectors.
