AHMEDABAD : The former nurse at Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, worked for 9 years before relocating to the UK and was returning to India to renew her professional license.
Ranjitha Gopakumar Nair, originally from Pullad in Thiruvalla, was one of the 242 passengers aboard Air India Flight AI171, which crashed minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad, en route to London. The catastrophic crash left no survivors, making it one of the worst air tragedies in recent history.
Ranjitha had served as a staff nurse under Oman’s Ministry of Health for nine years, working at the Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah. She had taken a five-year leave from her position at Kozhencherry Government Hospital in Kerala to work abroad, driven by the dream of building a home for her family. A year ago, she moved from Salalah to the UK in pursuit of better opportunities.

She was traveling back to India to complete formalities related to the renewal of her nursing license when the tragedy struck.
