Muscat – The case originated from a complaint filed with the Consumer Protection Authority’s (CPA) department in Barka. The complainant reported that he had contracted the business to customise and install home furniture (sofas) for an amount of RO 600, with an agreed completion time of three months.
However, the establishment failed to meet the deadline and repeatedly delayed delivery, prompting the consumer to file a complaint against the establishment.
After attempts at an amicable settlement failed, the CPA referred the case to the Public Prosecution. Upon investigation, the Public Prosecution charged the defendant and referred the matter to court.
In its verdict, the court found the defendant guilty of a misdemeanour, sentenced him to one year in prison, ordered his deportation following the completion of the sentence, and imposed a fine. Additionally, the defendant was directed to pay RO 500 in compensation to the civil claimant.
