Muscat: Reaffirming its strong commitment to the sustainability principles and their integration across all operational plans and projects, the Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) has been awarded the Gold Award at the Oman Sustainability Week Awards ceremony. The event was held under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Salim Nasser Al Aufi, Minister of Energy and Minerals, on Sunday, 11th May 2025 and attended by a distinguished group of CEOs and representatives from public and private sector institutions. This recognition came as part of Oman Sustainability Week 2025, which aims to showcase national efforts in sustainability, support initiatives that enhance quality of life, foster community development, protect the environment, and develop policies and frameworks aligned with Oman Vision 2040, the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and global trends and goals on emissions reduction, environmental balance and sustainability.
OETC received the Gold Award in the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) sustainability category, competing alongside more than 29 institutions from both public and private sectors, who got shortlisted to the finals after successfully passing the required evaluation according to the framework approved by the Center for Sustainability and Excellence in Chicago, USA. The award highlights collective efforts, celebrates achievements, and underscores the commitment to national and global sustainable development targets.
Commenting on the award, Eng. Saleh Nasser Al Rumhi, OETC’s CEO, emphasized the company’s full dedication to advancing sustainability and aligning all its strategies accordingly. He noted that OETC has taken significant steps to embed sustainability into all its operations in line with both national directions and global priorities. He added: “We recognize the importance of working within a clear framework guided by Oman Vision 2040, which places sustainability at the forefront to ensure inclusive and long-term development. At OETC, we are committed to realizing this vision by reducing carbon emissions, implementing strategic projects, enhancing operational efficiency, supporting community development, and preserving environmental safety and sustainability, while also enabling economic growth and fostering a robust business environment”.

Al Rumhi further stated that this recognition is a powerful motivation for OETC to continue positioning itself as a regional leader in sustainability. It also stands as a testament to the company’s ongoing efforts to adopt global ESG best practices. This achievement reaffirms OETC’s intention to press forward with sustainable projects and expand its positive impact in support of Oman’s vision for a prosperous and sustainable future.
It is worth mentioning that OETC, a member of Nama Group, is the company responsible for the transmission and control of electricity across the Sultanate’s network. The electricity is transmitted from production stations to distributed load centers in the governorates. The transmission network operates at a voltage of 132kV and above to cover most of the governorates in the Sultanate, whether in the north or the south. Furthermore, OETC manages the interconnection lines between Oman and the GCC interconnection network, which operates at a voltage of 220kV.
