Muscat – The seizure, which constitutes a clear violation of the Consumer Protection Law and its Executive Regulations, is part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to monitor and regulate local markets. The operation followed multiple public reports and surveillance of promotional content circulating on social media platforms advertising medicinal herbs and cosmetics with unverified medical claims.
The confiscated items include creams, capsules, and various types of honey blended with medicinal substances, all found to be marketed without the necessary licenses or approvals. Judicial enforcement officers carried out surprise inspections, targeting establishments suspected of selling unregistered and potentially unsafe products.
The CPA pointed out that these actions are not isolated. In January, the Authority organised a key meeting with representatives of herbal product shops and traditional treatment centres within the Muscat Governorate. The meeting sought to enhance collaboration, educate suppliers on regulatory compliance, and foster a consumer environment free of violations.
Discussions during the session addressed the challenges faced by business owners, offering practical solutions to help them adhere to legal standards. The Authority also presented streamlined procedures for obtaining permits and approvals, aiming to support businesses while maintaining consumer safety.
The CPA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumer rights and maintaining safe market practices through continued inspection campaigns. Consumers are urged to report any violations by suppliers through the various available communication channels.
