MUSCAT: PM Sharafuddin is a household name in Oman. Having spend almost 40-years of his life in the Sultanate, Sharafuddin, a travel industry expert and social activist is leaving the country he calls home for good.
“Oman is home for me. I spend my entire life here and I set my future from here. It’s tough to leave,” said an emotional Sharafuddin, who hails from Mahe in Kerala, India.
Fondly called as ‘Sharafukka’, his selfless involvement in many areas of social activities, made him the darling of people from north Kerala and Mahe in particular. “Sharafukka’s presence in humanitarian and charity services made him an unforgettable member of Mahe Welfare Association which spearheaded hundreds of programs to serve the community as a whole and the diaspora too,” said a Mahe community resident in Oman.

With the threat of coronavirus pandemic looming in Oman, his friends and associates met over ‘Zoom’ for an “e-gathering” to thank and bid adieu to him.
“After 40 years of living in Oman, it’s time to leave. Although the possibility of packing up had been hovering as a ‘someday’, the actual decision felt like an anvil hitting the pit of my stomach,” Sharuffudin said.
“Oman is where I set my dreams, where I discovered myself, many friends I made to cherish and value. I don’t think I can truly ever say good-bye to a place that houses so many of my memories but I am going to miss Oman terribly more than anything,” added Sharafuddin.
