MUSCAT: Oman is beginning to see a drop in the number of coronavirus cases registered since the lockdown has been implemented, a top Ministry of Health official said.

Speaking in an interview with Oman TV, Dr. Saif Al Abri, Director General of Diseases Surveillance & Control said the decision to impose nationwide lockdown was taken to reduce the rate of infection. “We are beginning to see a drop in coronavirus cases. Such precautionary measures (movement ban) are taken to reduce infection rate to at least 60%,” Al Abri said.

“If the cases reduce significantly during this lockdown period particularly during Eid Al Adha holidays, then we will see success in lockdown regulations,” he said,

Meanwhile, the Supreme Committee praised the efforts of citizens and residents in adhering to the lockdown regulations that is imposed since July 25.
