MUSCAT: Oman will close all governorates for 15 days starting from July 25 to August 8 in a bid to contain a resurgent coronavirus pandemic.

“The Supreme Committee has also decided to prevent movements and closing all public places and shops during the mentioned period from 7:00pm until 6:00 am during the lockdown period. Patrols and checkpoints will be intensified during the day hours,” the statement from the committee said.

The Committee also banned all types of gatherings especially Eid prayers, traditional Eid markets, greeting gatherings and group celebration.

The decision to close the governorates comes from the Supreme Committee after the COVID-19 infections have surged back in recent weeks.

Oman had earlier locked Muscat Governorate for nearly two months and part of Jalan Bani Bu Ali, while Dhofar Governorate and Wilayat Masirah are still under lockdown.
