KAZAKHSTAN: Authorities have confirmed that 25 people survived the crash and are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

Video footage captured the harrowing moment as flight J2-8243 burst into flames upon impact, sending thick plumes of black smoke into the air. Firefighters swiftly extinguished the blaze, according to Kazakhstan’s emergencies ministry.

The flight was en route from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, the capital of Russia’s Chechen Republic, when it was forced to make an emergency landing approximately three kilometers (two miles) from Aktau. Azerbaijan Airlines stated that the diversion was caused by dense fog in Grozny.

Authorities are now investigating possible causes of the crash, including technical issues, according to Kazakhstan’s officials and Russian news agency Interfax.
