Health official explains why Oman reported high number of COVID-19 cases on Monday

MUSCAT: Oman on Monday recorded the highest coronavirus cases as 2,164 people have been infected with the virus.

However, speaking in an interview with Oman TV, Dr. Saif Al Abri, DG of Diseases Surveillance at Ministry of Health said that the cases spiked due to the increase in the number of cases tested. “As you know 6,173 cases were tested on Sunday which includes 2,192 tests carried out by the private sector which got accumulated over the last three days and this is why we saw more tested positive on Monday,” Al Abri explained.

According to Al Abri, the total rate of coronavirus now stands at 24 percent. “Many private sector companies and government entities are sending their staff for testing. The only way to reduce the cases is to keep continue the precautionary measures,” he added.

The total coronavirus cases in the country has touched 58,179, while 37,257 people have recovered from the virus.
