Chosen from a shortlist of six words, ‘brain rot’ captured the zeitgeist of an era grappling with the mental toll of the digital age. Its selection reflects a broader societal focus on the consequences of screen time, burnout, and the surge in digital detox trends.
The term describes the mental stagnation or decline caused by overexposure to mindless online content. Experts believe its colloquial tone and vivid imagery have made it relatable to younger generations, who are often at the forefront of conversations about mental health and digital well-being.
