MUSCAT : David Baker of the University of Washington, and Demis Hassabis and John Jumper of Google DeepMind, were recognized for their contributions to the field. Baker’s research focused on creating entirely new types of proteins, while Hassabis and Jumper developed an AI model capable of predicting protein structures.
The prize, valued at 11 million Swedish kronor (just over $1 million), will be divided between the winners, with Baker receiving half and Hassabis and Jumper sharing the other half. Their collaborative efforts have opened new avenues in protein research, including the design of entirely new proteins and innovative methods for predicting protein structures.
According to the Nobel Prize website, Baker achieved the remarkable feat of creating entirely new types of proteins, while Hassabis and Jumper developed an AI model that solved a 50-year-old problem in protein structure prediction. These advancements hold tremendous potential for future applications in medicine, biotechnology, and beyond.
