MANILA: The USGS said the earthquake’s epicentre was located about 32 kilometres southwest of Sarangani Island, near Mindanao, at a depth of 62 kilometres.
No tsunami warning has been issued, and there were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center also confirmed that the quake occurred at a depth of 62 kilometres.
The latest tremor comes weeks after a powerful earthquake struck Mindanao on June 8, killing 76 people and triggering building collapses and landslides.
That earlier earthquake, linked to movement along the Cotabato Trench, reportedly caused the seabed to rise by about two metres, exposing coral reefs and damaging marine ecosystems.
