TRIPOLI: Abdulhafeez Masoud, Deputy Director of the Libyan Coast Guard, said the migrants were of various nationalities and included both men and women.

He added that the rescued migrants would undergo the necessary legal procedures before being handed over to the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency, which will implement the applicable regulations.

Libya remains a major transit point for migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean to Europe.

According to the Libyan Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency, more than 37,000 irregular migrants were voluntarily repatriated to their home countries during 2025 under the voluntary return programme, as part of the country’s efforts to curb illegal migration and strengthen border and immigration controls.
