OMR 280,000 awarded to research projects to fight COVID-19 in Oman

MUSCAT: The Research Council (TRC) headed by His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, has awarded OMR 280,000 to 28 research projects focused on aspects of coronavirus pandemic.

The decision to fund the projects was taken at a remote meeting chaired by Sayyid Shihab who is also the chairman of TRC.

“The Board has reviewed the developments in the COVID-19 pandemic research program, through which 28 research projects were funded at a total cost of approximately OMR 280,000.”

“The establishment of the Center for Excellence in the 5G Networks and the Internet of Things was also approved, with the aim of supporting national efforts in monitoring, developing and localising technologies,” the council added. 

Oman on Monday registered 1,605 new coronavirus cases, taking the total tally to 31,076.
