MUSCAT: As the Supreme Committee made wearing face masks mandatory while in public, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection has warned retailers and pharmacies against increasing the prices.
However, PACA clarified that due to demand following the Covid-19 outbreak, the import prices of face masks have significantly increased across the global markets.
“We carefully verify the import prices and the customs clearance certificates issued by the Directorate-General of Customs at the Royal Oman Police (ROP) in accordance with the rules,” PACA said.

According to PACA, importers are allowed to add up to 15% on the import price, while distributors are permitted to add 15%. “Any changes or increase above that will face legal action,” PACP warned.
Retail shops and pharmacies have reported a huge surge in demand for face masks after the Supreme Committee told citizens and residents on Monday that they should be worn at all times outside the home. PACP meanwhile have asked the public to report if they come across hike in the price of face masks.
