MUSCAT: Indian government have reportedly asked national airline Air India and Indian Navy to be on standby with their aircraft and warships for the mass evacuation of Indians from Gulf countries amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
The decision comes after thousands of Indians living in the Middle East have expressed their willingness to come back to the country. According to media reports, the government have asked for a detailed evacuation plan from Air India and Indian Navy.
In its detailed evacuation plan submitted to the government, the Indian Navy has outlined that it “can evacuate 1,500 Indians from the Gulf countries in three warships of the Navy”, news agency ANI reported on Tuesday. However, no details are known of when the evacuation plans will start from GCC countries.

India is currently under a national lockdown till May 3 to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
