MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik has called-on citizens and residents to work together to take the country forward and he also promised to continue the legacy of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur.
Sultan Qaboos led Oman for almost 50 years, coming to power in 1970, and drove a widespread programme of modernisation in the country throughout those five decades and favoured moderation and mediation in regional affairs.
In his opening remarks on January 10, 2020, His Majesty Sultan Haitham said: “People of Oman, the trust thrust on our shoulders and the resultant immense responsibilities require us all to work together for the sake of our country’s magnificence, with a persistent resolve to promote it to the loftiest levels. This cannot be realized without your support and cooperation and combination of all efforts to achieve the desired supreme national goal. Your contribution to enrich all efforts of progress, development and prosperity will be highly appreciated.”

The 40-day mourning period of Late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur has come to an end on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.
Sultan Qaboos passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020. Three days of official mourning was declared, with flags flown at half-mast for 40 days.
