MUSCAT: The children of Omani women who are married to expats will be exempted from paying tuition fees in government schools, Arabic newspaper Al Shabiba reported on Tuesday.
The decision comes based on a recommendation from Oman Human Rights Commission. According to the report, the Ministry of Education has issued a ministerial decision to grant the exemption.
Previously, non-Omani students enrolled in government schools had to pay tuition fees.

“The committee submitted a report to the Ministry of Education to address the issue in accordance with the provisions of the Basic Law of the State, the Child Law and the two conventions (the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women and the Convention on the Rights of Children) and the committee then obtained a response from the Ministry to exempt these children from paying tuition fees,” the report said.
