MUSCAT: Are you going to renew your residency card? Then you must bring a copy of your rental contract and electricity bill to the Directorate General of Civil Status, according to the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
This is a part of the upcoming ECensus 2020, where ROP is updating the personal databases of people living in Oman. “Expats must bring rental contract and electricity bill to get their resident card renewed,” a senior officer at ROP informed The Arabian Stories.
According to ROP, this also applies to Omanis who are renewing their ID cards and passports. “It’s the same for Omanis as well. This is part of our ongoing campaign for the ECensus,” he said.

The E-Census 2020 is the fourth census to be implemented by the Sultanate since the Renaissance. The previous censuses were based on field surveys, the most recent being in 2010.
A nationwide campaign, ‘Your Data, Your Identity’, has been launched to encourage citizens, residents and business owners to update their data at related authorities in the Sultanate.
