MUSCAT: An expat worker was sentenced to three months in prison and faces deportation after he was caught for illegally selling banned tobacco products, the Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) informed on Sunday.
The Primary Court in Barka issued a ruling against the expat for violating the consumer law. “Our inspection team caught the person during the tobacco sale, which is in violation of the Consumer Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. 66/2014 and Resolution No. 256/2015 that prohibits the trading of chewing tobacco.”
According to PACP, the worker also failed to renew his residency permit and was working illegally in the country.

“The court issued a ruling of three months’ imprisonment and deportation from the country, for negligence in renewing residency permit and working for a non-employer selling chewing tobacco,” the statement added.
