Muscat: Passengers flying from Oman on an Air India flight will have to pay extra for the excess cabin baggage which also includes items purchased from duty-free shops, the airline informed on Saturday.
In a statement, Air India said a traveller has to pay OMR 6 per kg if the hand baggage exceeds the permissible limit of 8kg. “Overweight hand baggage will be charged for excess weight over and above the allowed free hand-baggage allowance of 8kgs, including items purchased from duty free shops, for travel originating from Oman, with immediate effect,” a notice from Air India said.
“The charges are flight-based and passengers having a connection onto an interior point on another flight will be charged separately by the transit station – no combination of charges are allowed on two different flights,” the notice explained.

After paying the excess, the maximum permissible weight of a hand baggage is 10kg including the duty-free items.
“In case baggage the weight is more than 10kgs, the same will not be allowed in the cabin, and will need to be checked in as registered baggage,” the notice added.
