MUSCAT : The new resolution introduces significant amendments, including the addition of a new chapter (Schools for teaching motorcycle riding) within the executive regulations of the Traffic Law.
Here are the key details of the newly added chapter:
Prospective motorcycle training schools must meet specific criteria, such as submitting a formal application, employing Omani nationals of good conduct, providing adequate training facilities, and adhering to prescribed technical specifications for bicycles.
Operators of riding schools are required to contract Omani trainers, provide comprehensive training programs, equip trainees with necessary safety gear, and maintain electronic records of trainees, among other obligations.
Training instructors must hold a valid driving license, undergo specialized training from the traffic safety Institute, demonstrate good conduct, possess computer literacy, and have a clean driving record, among other qualifications.
However, certain activities are prohibited, including teaching individuals under the age of 18, conducting lessons during nighttime hours, and using unlicensed bicycles for training purposes, among others.
Additionally, the resolution introduces new fees associated with motorcycle training, further regulating this aspect of traffic management.
The Resolution also stipulates that the bike training instructor and trainee must adhere to the following:
1 – Not accompany a passenger during the training.
2- Wear a helmet, gloves, pants, and motoorcycle shoes.
3- Wear a reflective phosphorescent vest.
4 – Place a reflective phosphorescent sticker on the bike in accordance with the requirements set by the administration
Anyone who has a motorcycle driving license may teach in accordance with the controls and procedures determined by the administration.
Anyone who has a motorcycle license may teach driving to his relatives in accordance with the controls and procedures determined by the administration.
This update to the Traffic Law reflects Oman’s commitment to enhancing road safety standards and providing comprehensive education for cyclists. By establishing guidelines for bicycle driving schools and instructors, the government aims to ensure the effective and responsible use of bicycles as a mode of transportation across the country.
