MUSCAT : The court convicted the establishments and imposed fines on them.
The convictions stem from complaints received by the Consumer Protection Authority’s (CPA) department in South Sharqiyah Governorate, lodged by multiple consumers who contracted furniture manufacturing establishments. Allegations surfaced regarding delays and non-compliance with agreed-upon timelines, constituting a breach of Article 23 of Consumer Protection Law No. 66/2014.
As attempts to reach an amicable settlement failed and the establishments showed a lack of response and cooperation, the complaints were referred to the judicial authorities. The court, after reviewing the case, convicted the establishments of the misdemeanor of non-compliance with service provision standards.
The court imposed fines of RO 300 on the establishments and also obligated them to return RO 1030 to the affected consumers.
The CPA stresses that it is imperative for all traders and suppliers to adhere to consumer protection regulations, maintaining transparency and integrity in business dealings. It underscores the importance of avoiding deceptive advertising practices to safeguard consumer rights and uphold fairness in the marketplace.
