MUSCAT : Mays, the pioneering company behind this initiative, announced via its social media channels that the SUV model, dubbed Alive 1, will be available to customers by year’s end, with an estimated price range of approximately RO16,000.

Expressing support to the venture, the Deputy Wali of Mutrah recently met with Hamad Al-Wahaibi, a member of the municipal council, to discuss the locally-produced Mays electric car. The meeting highlighted the car’s role in propelling Oman’s industrial sector forward.

With a global shift towards electric vehicles, Mays sees a bright future and positions itself as a leader in Oman’s sustainable transportation sector. The prototype of Alive 1 was previously showcased in North Al Batinah and Muscat governorates.

Mays revealed that the overwhelming number of pre-orders has surpassed initial projections, prompting considerations for ramping up production within the first year. The Mays Alive 1 is engineered to run solely on electric charging and is tailored to thrive in the GCC region’s diverse climate conditions.

Mays is strategically focusing on utilizing locally sourced components and streamlining manufacturing processes to expedite market entry while mitigating costs. The ‘Made in Oman’ initiative is poised to generate employment opportunities in maintenance and spare parts sectors.

This development aligns with global trends as various governments worldwide have pledged to phase out fossil fuel-powered vehicles between 2030 and 2050.
