History of Yooperlites

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is home to the stunning yooperlite crystal. According to legend, it possesses metaphysical qualities that make it easier to perceive the truth, as well as to gain insight and clarity. When you need a little extra strength during times of transition, Yooperlite is a great choice.

The “yoopers” are the locals whose names this crystal takes after the area where it was discovered. One kind of syenite, yooperlite, contains sodalite that glows in the dark. Some of the colours it can be found in are pink, orange, green, and blue. The presence of uranium causes the most prevalent colour, which is green.

Discovered in 2017 by geologist Erik Rintamaki, yooperlite was initially found in Northern Michigan. People go from far and wide in pursuit of this gem, and now you can find them at gems and mineral stores. It has also become a sought-after collectible. If you want to get the most out of your Yooperlite rocks, you’ll need a UV lamp.

How did Yooperlites form?

Volcanic eruptions and glacial migration worked together to generate yooperlites. Approximately one billion years ago, during a very violent geologic period, they developed as North America tried to split itself in half. An ocean of lava more than 1,700 feet deep was erupted during one eruption, which resulted in the formation of the Midcontinental Rift and unfathomable volcanic explosions that produced 360,000 cubic kilometres of lava. Much of what is now under Lake Superior is still part of North America, therefore the rift was never able to split the continent despite all this activity. Subterranean magma that formed into syenite with sodalite, or “glowdalites,” was located close to the present-day shore of Lake Superior.

Yooperlite fragments were left behind when the last ice age, which occurred around 10,000 years ago, scraped these glowdalites southward and scattered them throughout the Great Lakes. These rocks were formed under ideal circumstances, brought about by a mix of glacial action and the subsequent weathering that eroded the rock’s surface.

Mineralogy

Yooperlite primarily comprises syenite, an igneous rock formed from cooled magma. It contains several minerals, such as microcline feldspar, Sodalite, nepheline, cancrinite, and pyroxene. All are responsible for giving Yooperlite its distinct glow when exposed to ultraviolet light. Sodalite in Yooperlite displays a strong hackmanite-like fluorescent in response to longwave UV illumination.

Healing properties

Already well-known as a stone of expression and healing, Yooperlite is making waves in the gemstone industry. To express oneself emotionally and speak one’s truth, Yooperlite opens and awakens the throat chakra. Gaining self-knowledge and personal progress is the goal of Yooperlite’s self-discovery adventures. Additionally, it is believed to assist in gaining access to one’s creative side and in developing fresh, optimistic outlooks on life.

Yooperlite has an array of physical advantages, such as alleviating menopause symptoms, inflammation, fever, headaches, sinus infections, and muscular stress. In cases of laryngitis and hoarseness, it can also help soothe the throat, vocal chords, and larynx.

The energy of Yooperlite is incredibly nourishing and firmly planted in the human energy field. Yooperlite is a powerful soul retrieval stone that aids in the restoration of lost aspects of identity associated with social acceptance, harmony, and the avoidance of pain. Those areas are pleading for attention and affection. Using Yooperlite, you can locate them and offer them a platform to be heard. As an additional integration stone, Yooperlite can give you the strength and confidence to nurture the hidden aspects of your personality that you may have thought you sacrificed for love. Realising that you are deserving of love from yourself is one of its benefits.
