MUSCAT — Oman and Iran’s foreign ministers discussed efforts to restore unhindered navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the need for lasting arrangements to safeguard shipping and prevent renewed conflict, Oman’s Foreign Ministry said.
Omani Foreign Minister His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araqchi reviewed the latest diplomatic contacts and talks during a telephone call, according to a ministry statement issued on November 5.
The discussions focused on reaching practical, political and technical understandings that would allow maritime traffic to resume through the strait without obstruction.

Both ministers stressed the importance of moving beyond easing tensions towards durable agreements underpinned by practical measures to ensure the safety of maritime passages.
Such arrangements should include joint technical mechanisms to secure the flow of international trade and energy supplies, help end the state of war and prevent renewed confrontations in the region, the statement said.
The ministers also emphasised that the proposed understandings must respect state sovereignty and take account of the legitimate interests of all parties.
They called for conditions that would allow dialogue and negotiations to resume and address the unresolved issues driving the escalation.
The two sides agreed to maintain consultations and coordination and support diplomatic efforts aimed at strengthening regional security and stability.
