MUSCAT: In a statement, the ROP clarified that the announcement circulating on social media and other platforms is false, warning that the messages are being used for online fraud.
The scam messages reportedly claim that motorists can receive a 50 percent reduction in traffic fines if they settle their payments within 24 hours. They contain suspicious electronic links designed to obtain users’ personal and financial information.
The police urged the public to avoid interacting with unofficial links or websites and to verify all traffic-related information through official ROP channels, including its official website and mobile application.
The public was also advised to report suspicious messages and links to the relevant authorities.
