MOSCOW : Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Putin discussed the matter with Pezeshkian during two meetings held on the sidelines of the Commonwealth of Independent States summit and the Caspian Sea Environmental Summit in Turkmenistan.
According to Russian news agency Sputnik, Putin informed the Iranian president during the meetings that he was due to hold a telephone conversation with Trump, giving Moscow an opportunity to communicate Tehran’s views on a possible resolution to the conflict.
The development comes after Trump said on Friday that he had held a “highly successful” telephone conversation with Putin. The two leaders also discussed broader international and energy-related issues during the call.

Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian President’s Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, also described the Putin-Trump conversation as highly successful.
Putin and Pezeshkian held a bilateral meeting in Turkmenistan on the sidelines of the regional summits, as diplomatic efforts continue amid heightened tensions involving Iran and the United States.
Trump, in his remarks following the call with Putin, also reiterated that Iran must not acquire a nuclear weapon.
