FLORIDA : Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin on Florida’s Gulf Coast, unleashing powerful winds, heavy rainfall and strong waves across parts of Florida and Alabama.
The US National Hurricane Center in Miami said the hurricane came ashore near Destin before weakening after landfall. The storm had maximum sustained winds of around 169 kilometres per hour as it reached the coast.
Powerful winds and rough seas battered the Florida Panhandle and Alabama coast, raising concerns over storm surge, flash flooding and damage in low-lying areas. Authorities urged residents in vulnerable coastal communities to follow evacuation and safety instructions.

Forecasters warned that the threat would continue even as Isaias weakened while moving inland, with heavy rain and strong winds expected across parts of the southeastern United States.
The system was forecast to move farther inland through Alabama and toward northern areas, bringing the possibility of flooding, damaging winds and other severe weather across its path.
