MUSCAT: The council reviewed a presentation by the Directorate General of Health Services in Muscat on healthcare services and programmes, performance indicators, completed development projects and health projects included in development plans.

The presentation also covered development and maintenance works and initiatives aimed at promoting public health and community services, highlighting coordination among relevant authorities to improve the health system and the quality of services provided to residents.

As part of the focus on preventive healthcare, the council reviewed initiatives aimed at improving quality of life and reducing health risk factors, with an emphasis on strengthening community health and sustaining prevention efforts.

The council also approved the minutes of its previous meeting and recommendations concerning the Ministry of Social Development’s 2026 plan, commending efforts to develop the social work system and expand programmes for different beneficiary groups in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

On regulatory matters, the Legal Affairs Committee discussed regulations governing accommodation for construction workers at sites located within residential neighbourhoods. The committee considered the social and health implications of such accommodation and stressed the need to balance construction requirements with the safety, privacy and comfort of residents.

The Health and Environmental Affairs Committee reviewed developments in waste management by Muscat Municipality, including transport efficiency, compliance with collection schedules and public awareness efforts aimed at improving cleanliness and reducing environmental and health impacts.

The Governorate Development and Growth Committee also discussed proposals to diversify facilities and activities in Al Amerat, including a project targeting motorcycle enthusiasts to expand recreational and service offerings.

The council further reviewed proposals including the reconstruction of Qurayat Hospital to accommodate urban expansion and population growth and improve healthcare services. Other matters included the protection of sites of natural value and planning uses related to community needs, with an emphasis on aligning decisions with development priorities while preserving the governorate’s natural resources.
