NEW YORK : The meeting, which marks the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, was held at the UN Headquarters in New York on September 28, 2026. Oman was represented by His Excellency Ambassador Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Qatbi, Head of the International Organisations Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In its statement, Oman stressed the importance of protecting human dignity, promoting equality and mutual respect, and translating international commitments into tangible improvements in the lives of people and communities.

Oman highlighted its approach centred on dialogue, understanding and coexistence, pointing to national and international initiatives including the Message of Peace, Human Fraternity and the Muscat Action Plan.

The Muscat Action Plan, launched at UN Headquarters in June 2026, seeks to strengthen the role of traditional and Indigenous leaders in addressing hate speech and incitement, preventing genocide and atrocity crimes, and supporting mediation and peacebuilding.

Oman also stressed the importance of stronger international cooperation, connecting global commitments with action at the local level, drawing on community-based knowledge and experience, and increasing youth participation.
