New York: His Excellency Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), met Dubravka Šuica, European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
During the meeting, the two officials reviewed cooperation between the GCC and the European Union and discussed opportunities to further expand Gulf-European ties across areas of mutual interest.
The GCC and EU have been working to deepen their strategic partnership, building on the first GCC-EU summit held in Brussels in October 2024 and subsequent high-level dialogue between the two blocs.

Discussions also focused on preparations for the next Gulf-European summit, scheduled to take place in Saudi Arabia in October. Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening dialogue and joint cooperation to advance shared interests and deliver greater prosperity for people across the Gulf and Europe.
H.E. Al-Budaiwi and Šuica also exchanged views on developments in the region, including the serious consequences of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and its wider repercussions for regional stability.
