MUSCAT: Oman is looking to recruit 10,000 workers from Bangladesh, with 5,000 positions earmarked for agriculture and another 5,000 for fisheries, as the two countries work to strengthen cooperation on labour.
Bangladesh State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam said an agreement covering the proposed recruitment has been signed between the two countries.
She said Omani government representatives are expected to travel to Bangladesh next month to discuss the implementation of the agreement with the relevant authorities and finalise its details.
The proposed recruitment comes as Bangladesh seeks to expand opportunities for its workers in Oman amid restrictions affecting the entry of Bangladeshi nationals in some employment categories.
Obaed Islam said Dhaka is pursuing diplomatic efforts to facilitate the regular movement of Bangladeshi workers to Oman.
