MUSCAT : Authorities in Muscat are stepping up efforts to make buildings and public facilities more accessible for people with disabilities, with a specialised team preparing to conduct field assessments across the governorate.

The Team for Surveying Buildings and Facilities Meeting Accessibility Standards for Persons with Disabilities met with the Office of the Wali of Muscat to discuss the implementation of the initiative. The meeting was attended by His Excellency Ali bin Said Al Saeedi, Wali of Muscat, and members of the Wilayat’s Municipal Council.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the team’s responsibilities, its fieldwork plan and mechanisms for coordinating with relevant authorities.

The assessments will examine the extent to which buildings and facilities have been adapted in accordance with approved accessibility standards, with the broader aim of enabling people with disabilities to access public services and facilities more easily and independently.

Officials also discussed the survey methodology, including the assessment form that will be used and the sectors and facilities targeted under the initiative.

Information collected during the fieldwork will contribute to the establishment of a database identifying the readiness of facilities and areas requiring further improvements. The findings are expected to support broader efforts to strengthen accessibility across Muscat.

The Wali’s Office will support the initiative by facilitating the team’s fieldwork, coordinating with relevant entities and encouraging participation in assessing the current condition of buildings and facilities.

The initiative forms part of Muscat Governorate’s efforts to improve service quality and create a more inclusive environment for all members of society.
