KATHMANDU : The bodies were recovered from different locations in Nuwakot and Dhading as search and rescue operations continued, while police personnel stationed in Timure, Syafrubesi, Simle and Mailung remained out of contact.

Authorities fear the number of missing could rise as information continues to emerge from affected areas. Hydropower workers, government personnel, residents and tourists are among those feared to have been caught in the disaster.

The powerful floodwaters swept through settlements and damaged bridges, roads and hydroelectric infrastructure along the Bhotekoshi River. Some affected areas remained difficult for rescue teams to access because of high water levels and extensive damage.

Initial reports linked the sudden surge to a possible glacial event upstream in the Himalayan region. However, the exact cause remains under investigation, with experts also examining whether an ice-and-rock avalanche may have triggered the flash flood.

Nepalese authorities have launched extensive rescue and relief operations while issuing urgent warnings to people living along riverbanks and in low-lying areas to move to safer locations.

Local residents described the flooding as among the most severe seen in the region in decades, as authorities continued to assess casualties and the full scale of damage.
