MUSCAT: A high-severity thunderstorm alert is in effect from 12 pm for parts of the Eastern Hajar Mountains, while a moderate thunderstorm alert covers parts of the Hajar Mountains and adjacent areas from the same time. Moderate downdraft winds are also expected across the Hajar Mountains and nearby areas from noon.

Limited active-wind conditions are expected from 8am in Al Jazer, Duqm, Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Sadah, Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands, Mahout and Masirah.

Limited rainfall is forecast from 8am across Rakhyut, Salalah, Dhalkut, Taqah and Mirbat. Limited thunderstorms are also expected from 6pm over desert areas of Al Dakhiliyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar.
The weather is expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy along the coasts of Dhofar Governorate and the adjoining mountains, with intermittent drizzle. Elsewhere, skies are forecast to be clear to partly cloudy, with a chance of cumulus clouds developing over parts of the Hajar Mountains during the afternoon.

These clouds may bring scattered rain, which could become thundery at times and be accompanied by downdraft winds. Scattered rainfall may also extend into the deserts of Al Dhahirah and Al Wusta during the evening.

Dust and sandstorms are possible over desert and open areas, while low clouds or fog may develop late at night and during the early morning over parts of the Arabian Sea and Sea of Oman coastal areas.
A similar weather pattern is forecast for Friday, with intermittent drizzle along the Dhofar coast and adjoining mountains, afternoon cloud development over parts of the Hajar Mountains and a chance of scattered, occasionally thundery rain accompanied by downdrafts.
