MUSCAT: The most severe alert is for downbursts and dust storms, classified as high severity, beginning at 1 pm in parts of the Al Hajar Mountains and adjacent desert areas.

A moderate alert for thundershowers is expected to begin at noon across parts of the Al Hajar Mountains and surrounding areas. The weather may be accompanied by active downdrafts during the afternoon and evening.

A separate moderate alert for active winds begins at 9 am and covers Al Jazer, Duqm, Jaalan Bani Bu Ali, Sadah, Shalim and the Hallaniyat Islands, Mahout and Masirah.

In Dhofar Governorate, a limited rain alert began at 8 am for Rakhyut, Salalah, Dhalkut, Taqah and Mirbat.

According to Oman Meteorology, the coasts of Dhofar and adjoining mountain areas are expected to remain partly cloudy to cloudy, with intermittent drizzle. High- and medium-level clouds are also expected to move across most governorates.

There are chances of cumulus cloud formation and scattered rainfall, which may become thundery in some areas. Active downdrafts are also expected over parts of the Al Hajar Mountains during the afternoon and evening.

Dust and sand may be raised over desert and open areas, potentially reducing visibility.

Low clouds or fog may also develop late at night and during the early morning over parts of the coastal areas of South Al Sharqiyah, Al Wusta and Dhofar governorates, as well as along the Sea of Oman coast.
